RAMSAY’s Dark & Dingy Underpass Mural: Volunteers Needed!

Caitlind Brown & Monica Ila are two Ramsay-based artists who have been working on an immersive mural for the underpass beneath the train line on 11th-12th Street SE. This underpass is an important pedestrian corridor and the primary connector between Ramsay, Inglewood, and the Bow River.

Together with the Ramsay Community Association, they’ve coordinated with both the City of Calgary and CPKC (formerly CP Rail) to animate the underpass with a bright and colourful mural. The mural design will be inspired by hyper-local histories, stories, and myths from the neighbourhood.

Manchester's New Community Garden

Earlier this spring, neighbours in Manchester came together to build a new community garden space for residents to learn about and grow food, herbs, and flowers together.

Community gardens help enhance the health and well-being of neighbourhoods and communities by providing the space and opportunity for people of all skill levels to learn and interact. They are a place where people can connect with nature, better understand where their food comes from, and provide opportunities for sharing and learning.

Project Update: 17 Avenue SE Water Meter Chamber

11/12 Street SE Cycle Lane Reconfiguration

If you’ve travelled along 11th/12th Street SE in Inglewood or Ramsay over the last several weeks, you’ll have noticed a reconfiguration of the protected wheeling lane between the Zoo Bridge in Inglewood (8th Ave SE) and the former Lilydale site in Ramsay (21st Ave SE.)

These changes are a temporary setup to what will eventually be a robust public realm redesign along 11/12 Street SE as we begin to build the GreenLine.

Bridgeland Main Street: Phase Two Construction Update + Temporary Road Closure

This construction season, as part of the Bridgeland Main Street Project, The City is completing sidewalk and streetscape improvements along 1 Avenue NE between 11 Street to 6 Street NE. Crews are finishing construction on the south side of 1 Avenue between 7A Street to 8A Street NE and we are targeting completion by the end of August 2024.

GreenLine: 78 Avenue SE Lane Closures

Starting August 15, there will be road upgrades to 78 Avenue SE west of Ogden Road. 78 Avenue SE east of Ogden Road to 27 Street is open to local traffic. The closure is expected to last approximately six weeks.

Dartmouth Road + 24 Avenue SE Improvements

The City of Calgary will be providing sidewalk, intersection, streetlight, and traffic safety improvements on Dartmouth Road SE and 24 Avenue SE.

Starting mid-August, City contractor, ALSA Road Construction, will:

Build a new sidewalk, curb extension and wheelchair ramp on 24 Ave SE
Build a new sidewalk along Dartmouth Road SE from 24 Ave to 26 Ave SE
Install new streetlighting on Dartmouth Road SE
Resurface the road following recent water main upgrades

We anticipate this project being complete in about four weeks time, wrapping up construction mid-September (weather permitting.)

Construction Impacts

During construction, there will be temporarily detour traffic in place. Crews will be working during non-peak hours, from 9 am to 3 pm, to minimize traffic disruptions and ensure timely completion.

Parking Changes

To make room for the new sidewalks, curb extensions, and driveway aprons, there will be some permanent changes to parking in the area.

The new Dartmouth Road SE sidewalk and driveway aprons will be built in The City’s right of way on the east side of the road. Business parking currently on The City’s right of way will be permanently removed to allow for these improvements.
To make room for the new curb extension on 24 Avenue SE, there will a permanent reduction to the amount of on-street parking from the corner of 8 Street SE to Dartmouth Road SE

Waste Cart Spot Checks - Dover and Penbrooke Meadows

Waste & Recycling Services routinely conducts waste cart spot checks to make sure the right items are going into the right carts, provide direct education to households, and lower contamination rates.

In the past, checks have been unannounced, however after feedback from Calgarians and following the lead of other municipalities, The City of Calgary is piloting a program that provides advanced notification to residents prior to doing cart checks.

Blue Line CTrain Closure - July 27 - 28, 2024

In order to accommodate CTrain maintenance work. Beginning Saturday, July 27 at the start of service until Sunday, July 28 at the end of service, there will be no Blue Line CTrain service between City Hall/Bow Valley College and Marlborough Stations. There will be various replacement shuttles to help support the closure.

Elliston Village Phase 5 + 6: Virtual Information Session

GreenLine: Continued Roadworks on Ogden Road & 78 Ave SE

On July 29, road upgrades for 78 Avenue SE will continue from 27 Street to the rail embankment, as well as the closure of the middle lanes of Ogden Road. 78 Avenue SE from Ogden Road to 27 Street will be open to local traffic.

This is a phased project that requires partial closures of 78 Avenue SE to traffic and pedestrians, as well as the middle lanes of Ogden Road SE, to ensure efficient, safe, and timely construction.

Ogden rise accessible playground

Work has begun to replace the playground at Ogden Rise. The City is replacing the existing playground with an updated inclusive playground. Inclusive playgrounds are meant to be engaging, fun spaces where everyone can play regardless of their abilities. These playgrounds challenge the most active children while also providing enclosed areas for quiet and creative play. The project is expected to be completed this fall.

ElListon Park Temproary Closure - July 20 + 21, 2024

Please be advised that Elliston Park will be temporarily closed to the public on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, 2024 in order to host the 2024 Cold Garden Limber Disc Golf Open.

There will be a temporary 18-hole disc gold course installed at the park. For the safety of park user and tournament participants, public access will be closed over the weekend.

We're developing dedicated pathway and bikeway routes in Ward 9 (Penbrooke Meadows, Forest Heights, Forest Lawn, Dover, Erin Woods, and Eastfield) aligning with Calgary's established Pathway and Bikeway Network. The proposed routes currently serve residential, recreation, shopping, education, and work destination. When the routes are improved, they will provide safe, healthy, and affordable travel choices for people of all ages and all abilities.

2024 HMCS Calgary Barn Burner Photos

Councillors Kourtney Penner and Gian-Carlo Carra along with the Friends of HMCS Calgary Committee welcomed nearly 600 friends, family, community organizations. and service members to this year’s event! All to help raise funds for the Foothills Burn Treatment Centre and The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary on behalf of HMCS Calgary, our city’s namesake Navy ship.
