Early Works Construction to begin on 6th Street SE Underpass
Early works for the 6 Street SE Underpass are expected to start Monday, March 31, 2025. The project will see a new vehicle link with the construction of an underpass for traffic under rail infrastructure, adding another access point to Calgary’s entertainment district as we prepared for some major developments in the area.
This work will focus on stripping and grading of the provincial lands south of CKPC Rail, enabling a temporary relocation of the CPKC Rail tracks anticipated later this summer. Temporary relocation of the CPKC Rail tracks is required prior to facilitating construction of the underpass bridge. The City of Calgary and EllisDon are working together to design and construct the underpass, in close consultation and coordination with our partners at CMLC and CPKC Rail. This first phase of construction is expected to have minimal impacts on Calgarians, and is not expected to impact daily commuters.
The 6 Street SE Underpass is funded in partnership with the Government of Alberta as part of The Culture + Entertainment District improvements program. Once complete, it will enhance accessibility and support continued development of The District, aligning with our shared vision of a vibrant, walkable District, and contribute to making Scotia Place and the surrounding area a landmark destination.
Project updates will be available on Calgary.ca/ScotiaPlace in the coming weeks.
